When I first downloaded Tik Tok, I definitely did not expect it to take a toll on my sense of style. Now, I think I can speak on behalf of thousands of other Tik Tok users when I say that Tik Tok has become one of my go-to fashion inspirations. Aside from the world-known fashion icons, from Cher to Devon Lee Carlson, people have resorted to Tik Tok to transform their entire wardrobe.
You don’t need to be a fashion expert to know that the fashion world is always changing- particularly, trends. Fads and style trends are one of the many aspects that keep the world of fashion fast-moving and exciting. Especially with the influence of Tik Tokers, one small change in an outfit can instantly become a favored trend by many. One of the most helpful features of the app is the algorithm, which keeps track of the types of videos you interact with and puts similar videos on the For You Page. If people are liking, commenting, sharing, or saving Tik Toks about fashion, more fashion-related content will show up on their screen. This is one of the main reasons how trends on Tik Tok become renowned, because the ideas and looks can be shared and recreated in an instant.
One of the main factors about the app that really revolutionized fashion is how trends from the past have started to repeat themselves, but have also transformed into a more modern look that can be played around with. Some of the most notable trends are scarf tops, mini skirts, bra tops, and low rise bottoms, just to name a few. Even though these pieces have always been considered in-style, I think Tik Tok has really allowed people to get out of their comfort zone when it comes to outfits. I have always been a fashion fanatic, but my setback used to be that I didn’t want to be the one to make a bold fashion statement. Now, I consider myself to be a trendsetter, moving out of my comfort zone and becoming more confident in myself and my unique style. On Tik Tok, people see other users wearing certain pieces, and they feel they can follow the lead and be bold without having to be the first one to do so.
As much as some of us may not like to admit it, there is no doubt that Tik Tok has become a huge catalyst for the fashion industry and Gen Z. The platform provides a sense of community, especially in the fashion world where there are no boundaries to what you can wear.
